Gooseberry Green makes snacks and meals a social time at which children and adults eat together encouraging good table manners. We plan the menus for snacks and meals so that they provide the children with healthy and nutritious food. We encourage independence, as recommended by Ofsted, through the children serving themselves and clearing the plates at the end of their meal. Our staff are always on hand to help out where needed.
Our menus are adapted from the government recommendations for menus for 1- 4 years
On our menu you will see CP 'child preperation'. On these sessions the children will be helping to prepare their own snack and lunch.
This is done on a rota basis and our aim is to ensure that each child gets an opportunity to participate in preparing their own snack, or food ready for lunch club that day. The children enjoy assisting staff with preparing fruit and vegetables or making cakes and biscuits and in doing this also learn more about the foods that they are eating. We also like to try and grow our own fruit and vegetables sometimes, and the children get involved in planting , caring for and then hopefully harvesting the things we manage to grow.
"Children learn how good food keeps them healthy. They are independent. They serve their own meals and tidy away their plates."
